Podcast Ep. 21 Vid. 1
Having just met the couple on the left, what does the boy ask the woman?
Nice to meet you.
У вас Wi-Fi есть?
Do you guys have Wi-Fi? (His ‘у’ was just barely audible.)
Есть. Только я пароль забыла.
We have it. Only, I forgot the password.
Podcast Ep. 21 Vid. 2
The guy is suffering from amnesia. She’s informing him who he is. Can you get most of what she tells him?
Your name is Shura. You live in this apartment. You work in Prevoz. You sell meat.
NOTE: Привоз is the name of the Central Market
Podcast Ep. 21 Vid. 3
Greeting his unexpected guests, what does Zhenya offer?
Wll you (be having) tea?
Podcast Ep. 21 Vid. 4
More tea anyone?
Доброе утро, Костя.
Good morning, Kostya.
Good. (It’s common to leave off “утро” in response. Since Kostya is surprised to see her, it comes off as a loss of words.)
Will you be having tea?
Tea? I’ll have (some).
Notice how few words they use, right? Especially note that it is correct to leave off вы in this situation, when offering someone something.
To include the word Вы would actually express surprise. Like, “You want tea?! (I thought you hated tea!)”
Podcast Ep. 21 Vid. 5
Миссус Овца = Mrs. Sheep
What does Peppa ask her?
Mrs. Sheep, do you work or play?
Podcast Ep. 21 Vid. 6
In this clip from ‘Daddy’s Daughters’, the young man at the door, after greeting the father, asks if Masha is at home. (А Мама дома?)
Can you get the rest?
Спасибо. Это вам.
Thanks. This is for you.
Podcast Ep. 21 Vid. 7
The man in the car is giving directions. His last three words translate as “straight and to the right.” Can you get the rest?
Uh…So, now you need to go straight, and to the right.
Directions like “Go straight, turn right, etc” are much easier to learn through video lessons. Again because I can prompt you visually. It’ll sink in deeper and quicker that way.
